Dispatch Assistant (Building Materials) – Experienced

Delivery days start early in Cape Town CBD, and a beverage depot needs you on the bay before the trucks roll. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

This post is Cape Town CBD-based, with most of your time spent at a beverage depot. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

• Check goods received against the delivery note and flag shorts
• Stack returns and empties neatly for the next count
• Get proof-of-delivery notes signed and stamped at each drop
• Sweep the bay and clear shrink-wrap after each loading
• Load trucks from the load sheet in drop order, last stop first
• Ride with the driver and carry goods into customers' premises
• Strap and secure loads so nothing shifts in transit

• No criminal record
• Grade 9 or higher and able to read a delivery note
• Able to lift and carry heavy items all day
• Willing to travel on routes that return late
• Honest; you will be handling customer goods and cash-on-delivery slips
• Friendly with customers at the door

• Past work as a driver's assistant
• Basic furniture assembly skills
• A Code 8 or Code 10 licence (a route to becoming a driver)

• Route-completion incentives in busy months
• Help to get your own licence through the company later
• Meal allowance on long-route days
• Uniform and safety shoes provided

• If you are learning to drive, mention it. Depots like to grow assistants into drivers.
• Say what hours you can start. Loading bays often hire the person who can be there at 04:00 without fail.
