Dispatch Controller (Distribution Depot)

Behind every truck on the road is a controller; at a road freight company in Johannesburg CBD, that could be you. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

This post is Johannesburg CBD-based, with most of your time spent at a road freight company. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Phone drivers when trucks stop too long or go off-route
• Compile daily reports on trips completed and late deliveries
• Keep a register of PrDP and licence expiry dates for all drivers
• Capture trip sheets, fuel and toll costs on the system
• Plan daily loads to use full truck capacity
• Check driver hours so nobody drives too long without rest
• Book vehicle services, licence renewals and roadworthy tests

• At least 2 years in transport or logistics
• Able to work shifts in a 24-hour control office
• Clear on the phone with drivers and customers
• Calm and decisive when things go wrong
• Matric

• Experience on a vehicle telematics platform
• Transport management system (TMS) experience

• Training on the fleet and tracking systems
• Cellphone allowance for standby shifts
• Office-based work with a steady roster

• Mention the tracking and Excel skills you have. Bring an example report if you are allowed to share one.
• Give the fleet size and route types you handled, for example "40 trucks, long-haul and local". Hiring managers want scale.
