Dispatch Controller (Distribution Depot)

Behind every truck on the road is a controller; at a distribution depot in Prospecton, that could be you. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

Home base is a distribution depot on the Prospecton side of KwaZulu-Natal. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Plan daily loads to use full truck capacity
• Keep a register of PrDP and licence expiry dates for all drivers
• Check driver hours so nobody drives too long without rest
• Arrange breakdown recovery and replacement vehicles
• Assign trucks and drivers to routes and track them on telematics
• Update customers on delivery times and delays
• Book vehicle services, licence renewals and roadworthy tests

• Able to work shifts in a 24-hour control office
• Calm and decisive when things go wrong
• Knowledge of South African road freight regulations
• Clear on the phone with drivers and customers

• Growth to transport manager
• Training on the fleet and tracking systems
• Office-based work with a steady roster
• Cellphone allowance for standby shifts

• If you drove trucks before, say so. Controllers who know the road earn quick respect from drivers.
• Give the fleet size and route types you handled, for example "40 trucks, long-haul and local". Hiring managers want scale.
