Load Planner (Road Freight)

You'll plan the loads and watch the trucks for a courier operations centre in Umhlanga, keeping every trip on time. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

The site is in Umhlanga; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Plan daily loads to use full truck capacity
• Update customers on delivery times and delays
• Check driver hours so nobody drives too long without rest
• Phone drivers when trucks stop too long or go off-route
• Arrange breakdown recovery and replacement vehicles
• Keep a register of PrDP and licence expiry dates for all drivers
• Assign trucks and drivers to routes and track them on telematics

• Matric
• Clear on the phone with drivers and customers
• Knowledge of South African road freight regulations
• Calm and decisive when things go wrong

• Knowledge of cross-border documentation
• Logistics or supply chain certificate
• Transport management system (TMS) experience

• Office-based work with a steady roster
• Training on the fleet and tracking systems
• Cellphone allowance for standby shifts

• Give the fleet size and route types you handled, for example "40 trucks, long-haul and local". Hiring managers want scale.
• Mention the tracking and Excel skills you have. Bring an example report if you are allowed to share one.
