Dispatch Controller (Distribution Depot)

Get off the road and into the control office at a courier operations centre in Springs. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

The site is in Springs; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying.

• Phone drivers when trucks stop too long or go off-route
• Keep a register of PrDP and licence expiry dates for all drivers
• Compile daily reports on trips completed and late deliveries
• Capture trip sheets, fuel and toll costs on the system
• Check driver hours so nobody drives too long without rest
• Book vehicle services, licence renewals and roadworthy tests
• Assign trucks and drivers to routes and track them on telematics

• At least 2 years in transport or logistics
• Clear on the phone with drivers and customers
• Knowledge of South African road freight regulations
• Calm and decisive when things go wrong
• Able to work shifts in a 24-hour control office
• Matric

• Transport management system (TMS) experience
• Knowledge of cross-border documentation

• Cellphone allowance for standby shifts
• Growth to transport manager

• If you drove trucks before, say so. Controllers who know the road earn quick respect from drivers.
• Give the fleet size and route types you handled, for example "40 trucks, long-haul and local". Hiring managers want scale.
