Domestic Helper (3 Days a Week)

Steady household work in a guesthouse with family quarters in Germiston, with clear days and hours agreed upfront. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

This post is Germiston-based, with most of your time spent at a guesthouse with family quarters. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Prepare simple meals or school lunches when asked
• Clean bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and living areas on a weekly rotation
• Help an elderly person with meals, medication reminders and light walking
• Wash, hang, iron and fold the household's laundry
• Dust furniture, ornaments and skirting boards

• Able to handle a full-day physical routine
• Neat, organised and able to work without being supervised
• Trustworthy, with references from previous employers you can share
• Willing to follow the family's house rules and routines
• Able to speak and understand basic English
• South African ID or valid work permit

• Basic first aid or child CPR course
• Non-smoker
• Cooking experience with family meals

• Own room with bathroom for live-in posts
• Registered for UIF and COIDA by the employer
• Transport money for live-out staff
• Written contract with fixed hours and duties

• Say plainly what you can and cannot do: cooking, ironing, childcare, driving. It avoids arguments later and families like honesty.
• Families hire on trust, so make references your strongest part. Write the employer's name, suburb, years worked and phone number for each one.
