Domestic Helper (3 Days a Week)

Cleaning, laundry and a hand with the kids: that is the week in a retired couple's cottage in Somerset West. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

You'll be based at a retired couple's cottage in Somerset West. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Get children ready for school and supervise homework in the afternoon
• Clean bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and living areas on a weekly rotation
• Clean windows and patio doors once a week
• Wash dishes and keep the kitchen tidy after meals
• Help an elderly person with meals, medication reminders and light walking

• Good with children and patient
• Able to speak and understand basic English
• Willing to follow the family's house rules and routines
• Trustworthy, with references from previous employers you can share
• South African ID or valid work permit

• Non-smoker
• Cooking experience with family meals

• Registered for UIF and COIDA by the employer
• Written contract with fixed hours and duties
• Transport money for live-out staff
• Own room with bathroom for live-in posts

• Ask for a written contract and to be registered for UIF. Good employers expect the question and it protects you.
• Families hire on trust, so make references your strongest part. Write the employer's name, suburb, years worked and phone number for each one.
