Electrical Engineering Technologist (Substations)

You'll design, protect and maintain electrical systems for the municipal electricity department in Benoni. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

The work is in Benoni, Gauteng, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Guide technicians and contractors on site during commissioning
• Keep single line diagrams and as-built drawings up to date
• Size cables, transformers and protection using design software
• Design LV and MV reticulation to SANS 10142-1 and SANS 10142-2
• Design solar PV and battery systems and handle grid connection to NRS 097
• Draw up tender specifications and bills of quantities for electrical works

• ECSA registration as Pr Eng, Pr Tech Eng or Candidate
• Strong understanding of SANS 10142 and the Electrical Installation Regulations
• Code 08 licence and willingness to travel to sites
• Able to write clear technical reports and specifications
• Experience with at least one power system or lighting design package

• Protection or HV operating authorisation
• Renewable energy project experience above 1 MW

• Vehicle allowance for site work
• Clear path to associate or senior engineer
• Flexible hours on design days
• Paid professional registration and training
