Electrical Engineering Technologist (Substations)

You'll design, protect and maintain electrical systems for the municipal electricity department in Pinetown. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

Location: Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Design solar PV and battery systems and handle grid connection to NRS 097
• Keep single line diagrams and as-built drawings up to date
• Set and test protection relays and keep settings records
• Design LV and MV reticulation to SANS 10142-1 and SANS 10142-2
• Plan maintenance for switchgear, transformers and motor control centres

• Able to write clear technical reports and specifications
• ECSA registration as Pr Eng, Pr Tech Eng or Candidate
• At least 3 years of electrical engineering work after graduating
• Strong understanding of SANS 10142 and the Electrical Installation Regulations
• Experience with at least one power system or lighting design package

• Renewable energy project experience above 1 MW
• PLC programming certification
• Government Certificate of Competency (Electrical, Factories or Mines)

• Flexible hours on design days

• Clear path to associate or senior engineer

• List projects with their voltage level, size in kVA or MW, and whether you designed, supervised or commissioned.
• Name the software you use for power system studies and lighting design. Consultants screen for exact tools.
