Geotechnical Engineer (Foundations)

You'll design and supervise infrastructure people use every day, with the municipal infrastructure department in Umhlanga. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

You'll be based at a municipal infrastructure department in Umhlanga. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

• Design reinforced concrete and steel structures to SANS 10100 and SANS 10162
• Work out loads to SANS 10160 for buildings and structures
• Act as resident engineer: inspect works, measure quantities and certify payments
• Write design reports and handover documents
• Check drawings from technicians and sign them for issue

• BEng, BSc Eng or BTech in Civil Engineering
• At least 3 years in design or construction supervision
• Good grasp of South African design codes for your field
• Able to explain technical issues to clients and contractors

• Mention the design software you use and the codes you design to, so the reviewer does not have to guess.
• Say whether you have done resident engineer work. It is a separate skill and often in short supply.
