Electrician's Assistant (House Wiring) – Permanent

You'll mix, carry, dig and clean up so the tradespeople on a low-cost housing development in Richards Bay can keep building. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

You'll be based at a low-cost housing development in Richards Bay. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines
• Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed
• Compact soil and layer bedding sand with a plate compactor
• Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work
• Clear rubble and load it into skips
• Help offload deliveries of steel, timber and pipes
• Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches

• A clean record is preferred for some government sites
• You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE
• Prepared to travel between sites in the area
• Willing to start early, often at 06:30

• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days
• Paid weekly or fortnightly
• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site

• List past sites by name and what you did there, like "mixed concrete, laid kerbs". It proves you have done real site work.
• Government-funded projects often reserve jobs for people from the local ward. Bring proof of address and ask the site office about the local labour desk.
