Employee Relations Advisor (Unionised Site)

This private hospital in Umlazi needs an HR person who knows labour law and the shop floor. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

Location: Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

• Consult with shop stewards and attend union meetings.
• Run exit interviews and report turnover each quarter.
• Chair or initiate disciplinary hearings and write up the outcome.
• Track leave, absenteeism and sick notes and act on patterns.
• Advise line managers on the Labour Relations Act and the BCEA.
• Update HR policies when labour law changes.

• CCMA experience, at least at conciliation
• At least 3 years as an HR officer or generalist
• Solid working knowledge of the LRA, BCEA and EEA
• Valid driver's licence for multi-site roles

• Prepare for a case-study question on dismissing an employee fairly, and walk through procedure and substance.
• Quantify your IR work: how many hearings, CCMA cases and outcomes; that is what HR managers check first.
