English Home Language Teacher (Senior Phase)

You'll plan and teach CAPS lessons that stick at a faith-based independent school in Umhlanga. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

This post is Umhlanga-based, with most of your time spent at a faith-based independent school.

• Prepare Grade 12 learners for prelims and the NSC exams
• Attend staff meetings, subject meetings and district workshops
• Set, mark and moderate formal assessment tasks for the term
• Capture marks on SA-SAMS or the school's reporting platform before deadlines
• Handle classroom discipline with the school's code of conduct
• Meet parents to discuss progress, behaviour and support plans
• Give extra lessons to learners who are falling behind

• At least 1 year of classroom teaching, including teaching practice
• Full SACE registration (provisional registration only for student or newly qualified teachers)
• Sound knowledge of CAPS and the assessment policy for your phase
• You can manage a class of 35 or more without losing control
• A B.Ed, or a degree plus PGCE, in the phase and subject you'll teach
• Clear record on the National Register for Sex Offenders and a police clearance

• Experience marking for the NSC or IEB
• Coaching experience in a major school sport
• Experience with remedial or inclusive education

• Paid SACE CPTD workshops
• School holidays in line with the school calendar
• Pension and medical aid for permanent posts

• Mention the extra-murals you can run, as smaller schools often choose the teacher who can also coach.
• Put your SACE number, phase and subjects on the first line of your CV; heads sort applications by subject first.
