Job Description

A private medical ward in Bloemfontein needs someone kind and reliable to look after patients who can't manage alone. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

Home base is a private medical ward on the Bloemfontein side of Free State. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

What you'll actually do

  • Do simple wound dressings and report anything that looks infected
  • Follow infection control rules, including hand hygiene and safe sharps disposal
  • Hand out oral medication under the supervision of a registered nurse
  • Help patients bath, dress, eat and use the toilet with dignity
  • Take and chart temperature, pulse, blood pressure and blood glucose

Must-haves

  • Matric or NQF Level 4 equivalent
  • At least 1 year of hands-on patient care
  • Accredited home-based care or ancillary health care certificate for caregiver posts
  • First aid Level 1 or BLS certificate

Extra points for

  • A second South African language spoken by the patients you'll serve
  • Experience in a frail care or hospice setting
  • Code B or Code 8 driver's licence for home visits
