Job Description

Here you help people wash, eat, move and heal, at a physical rehabilitation hospital in Boksburg. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

You'll be based at a physical rehabilitation hospital in Boksburg. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

The work, day to day

  • Help patients bath, dress, eat and use the toilet with dignity
  • Turn bed-bound patients on schedule and check pressure areas for early sores
  • Spot confusion, falls risk or changes in mood and tell the nurse in charge
  • Keep families updated on routine matters and pass clinical questions to the sister
  • Keep the fluid and food intake charts accurate for every patient
  • Hand out oral medication under the supervision of a registered nurse

Must-haves

  • Accredited home-based care or ancillary health care certificate for caregiver posts
  • At least 1 year of hands-on patient care
  • SANC enrolment as an Enrolled Nurse or Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary for nursing posts
  • Matric or NQF Level 4 equivalent
  • Physically strong enough to lift and move patients safely
  • Able to work shifts, including nights and weekends

Extra points for

  • Dementia care or palliative care short course
  • Experience in a frail care or hospice setting
  • A second South African language spoken by the patients you'll serve
