Staff Nurse (Night Shift)

You'll give hands-on nursing care at a hospice in-patient unit in Pretoria West, working alongside registered nurses. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

This post is Pretoria West-based, with most of your time spent at a hospice in-patient unit. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Take and chart temperature, pulse, blood pressure and blood glucose
• Turn bed-bound patients on schedule and check pressure areas for early sores
• Follow infection control rules, including hand hygiene and safe sharps disposal
• Do simple wound dressings and report anything that looks infected
• Hand out oral medication under the supervision of a registered nurse
• Make beds, change linen and keep the rooms clean and uncluttered

• First aid Level 1 or BLS certificate
• Matric or NQF Level 4 equivalent
• Able to work shifts, including nights and weekends
• Physically strong enough to lift and move patients safely

• Experience in a frail care or hospice setting
• Code B or Code 8 driver's licence for home visits

• Meals provided on shift at many frail care centres
• Uniform supplied
• Paid training in dementia and end-of-life care
