Job Description

A home-based care agency in Isando needs someone kind and reliable to look after patients who can't manage alone. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

You'll be based at a home-based care agency in Isando. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

What your day looks like

  • Keep the fluid and food intake charts accurate for every patient
  • Do simple wound dressings and report anything that looks infected
  • Turn bed-bound patients on schedule and check pressure areas for early sores
  • Hand out oral medication under the supervision of a registered nurse
  • Help patients walk, transfer from bed to chair and do their exercises
  • Help patients bath, dress, eat and use the toilet with dignity
  • Make beds, change linen and keep the rooms clean and uncluttered

What you need

  • SANC enrolment as an Enrolled Nurse or Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary for nursing posts
  • Able to work shifts, including nights and weekends
  • Physically strong enough to lift and move patients safely
  • Patient and gentle with elderly, frail or confused people
  • Accredited home-based care or ancillary health care certificate for caregiver posts
  • At least 1 year of hands-on patient care

Helpful, not essential

  • Dementia care or palliative care short course
  • Experience in a frail care or hospice setting

On offer

  • Overtime paid at time and a half
  • Transport home after late shifts at some facilities
  • Meals provided on shift at many frail care centres

How to apply for this job

  1. Check you meet the must-haves first; recruiters filter on those before anything else.
  2. Keep copies of these ready to send: two references from previous care jobs, certified copy of your SANC enrolment or caregiver certificate plus first aid or BLS certificate.
  3. Use the form on this page. It takes about two minutes and you don't need to upload anything yet.
  4. Keep your phone on. Shortlisted applicants are contacted by call, SMS or WhatsApp within 10 working days.

Before you hit apply

  • Name the type of patients you've cared for, such as stroke patients or dementia residents, in your first CV line.
  • If you're a caregiver, attach the certificate from the training provider, not just a letter saying you attended.
