Professional Nurse (Medical Ward)

You'll run patient care on a busy shift at a private hospital surgical ward in Boksburg, from admission to discharge. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

Location: Boksburg, Gauteng. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Give scheduled medication, including Schedule 5 and 6 drugs, and sign the register
• Admit and discharge patients and explain medication and follow-up to families
• Report adverse events and near misses on the incident system the same day
• Do full patient assessments and update nursing care plans every shift
• Run emergency trolley checks and respond to cardiac arrest calls
• Supervise enrolled nurses and nursing assistants on your side of the ward
• Do wound care, catheter care and IV line management to unit protocol

• Current SANC registration as a Professional Nurse, with this year's annual fees paid
• You can work 12-hour day or night shifts, weekends and public holidays
• At least 1 year of post-community-service ward experience
• Valid BLS certificate; ACLS or PALS for ICU and emergency posts
• Clean criminal record
• Nursing qualification via the R425 diploma or R174 degree route

• IMCI and NIMART training for primary health care work
• Experience with electronic patient records or bedside charting systems
• Post-basic qualification in critical care, theatre or advanced midwifery

• Medical aid and pension fund contributions after probation
• Study support for post-basic specialities
• Night-shift and weekend allowances on top of basic pay
• Funded CPD points and in-house clinical training
