Job Description

You'll run your own files from instruction to judgment at a debt recovery law firm in Johannesburg CBD. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

This post is in Johannesburg CBD (Gauteng). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

What you'll actually do

Appear in the magistrate's court, CCMA, Labour Court or High Court as your matters need
Brief counsel and prepare them for trial and opposed motions
Supervise and train candidate attorneys and paralegals
Negotiate settlements and draft settlement agreements
Track legislation changes that affect clients' businesses
Review company processes for POPIA and privacy compliance
Keep trust account instructions and fee notes accurate

You'll need

Strong drafting and legal research
Right of appearance in the High Court for litigation posts
At least 2 years of post-admission experience in the relevant field
LLB and admission as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa
Enrolled with the Legal Practice Council and holding a current Fidelity Fund certificate if you handle trust money

Extra points for

Certificate in data protection or compliance
Experience on bank or insurer panels
