Farm General Worker (Vegetable Fields)

Outdoor work with your hands on a wine farm near Kathu; no experience needed for most posts. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

You'll be based at a wine farm in Kathu. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

• Follow the re-entry times after spraying, as the signs show
• Pick fruit or vegetables at the right ripeness and size, gently
• Keep your picking card or tag count for daily pay
• Tie up tomato and pepper plants in tunnels
• Prune and thin fruit trees and vines to the farm's method

• Follows farm hygiene and safety rules
• Physically fit for bending, lifting and climbing ladders
• Willing to start at sunrise
• Available for the full harvest season
• Careful with fruit, since bruised fruit is rejected

• Piece-rate bonus on top of daily wage
• Seasonal accommodation on some farms
• Farm transport from nearby towns
• Chance of a permanent post after good seasons

• If you have picked before, say which crop and how many seasons. Farms rehire experienced pickers first.
• Have your bank details ready. Most farms pay into a bank account and will not start you without it.
