Farm General Worker (Vegetable Fields) – Immediate Start

Outdoor work with your hands on a deciduous fruit orchard near Kathu; no experience needed for most posts. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

Location: Kathu, Northern Cape. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first.

• Weed beds by hand or with a hoe
• Follow the re-entry times after spraying, as the signs show
• Move irrigation pipes and check drippers for blockages
• Tie up tomato and pepper plants in tunnels
• Plant seedlings in rows at the spacing shown

• Careful with fruit, since bruised fruit is rejected
• Follows farm hygiene and safety rules
• Available for the full harvest season
• Physically fit for bending, lifting and climbing ladders
• Willing to start at sunrise

• Living on or near the farm
• Previous harvest or picking experience

• Seasonal accommodation on some farms
• Farm transport from nearby towns
• Chance of a permanent post after good seasons
• Piece-rate bonus on top of daily wage

• Farms hire before the season starts, so apply four to six weeks early. Late arrivals often find the teams already full.
• If you have picked before, say which crop and how many seasons. Farms rehire experienced pickers first.
