Farm General Worker (Vegetable Fields) – Permanent

Outdoor work with your hands on a wine farm near Mbombela; no experience needed for most posts. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

This post is Mbombela-based, with most of your time spent at a wine farm. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Keep your picking card or tag count for daily pay
• Pick fruit or vegetables at the right ripeness and size, gently
• Tie up tomato and pepper plants in tunnels
• Clean and store picking bags, ladders and secateurs
• Plant seedlings in rows at the spacing shown
• Wash hands and use the field toilets for food safety

• Physically fit for bending, lifting and climbing ladders
• Follows farm hygiene and safety rules
• Valid ID or work permit
• Careful with fruit, since bruised fruit is rejected

• Pruning experience on vines or fruit trees
• Tractor or quad bike experience

• Farm transport from nearby towns
• Chance of a permanent post after good seasons
• Piece-rate bonus on top of daily wage

• Farms hire before the season starts, so apply four to six weeks early. Late arrivals often find the teams already full.
• If you have picked before, say which crop and how many seasons. Farms rehire experienced pickers first.
