Farm General Worker (Vegetable Fields)

Crops do not wait, and a deciduous fruit orchard near Pinetown needs extra hands this season. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

This post is Pinetown-based, with most of your time spent at a deciduous fruit orchard.

• Tie up tomato and pepper plants in tunnels
• Pick fruit or vegetables at the right ripeness and size, gently
• Keep your picking card or tag count for daily pay
• Clean and store picking bags, ladders and secateurs
• Weed beds by hand or with a hoe

• Available for the full harvest season
• Willing to start at sunrise
• Physically fit for bending, lifting and climbing ladders
• Follows farm hygiene and safety rules

• Tractor or quad bike experience
• Living on or near the farm
• Pruning experience on vines or fruit trees

• Chance of a permanent post after good seasons
• Seasonal accommodation on some farms
• Piece-rate bonus on top of daily wage

• Farms hire before the season starts, so apply four to six weeks early. Late arrivals often find the teams already full.
• Have your bank details ready. Most farms pay into a bank account and will not start you without it.
