Field Service Diesel Mechanic (Roadside Breakdowns)

Every hour a truck stands still costs money. This municipal bus depot in Kimberley needs a mechanic who can fix it quickly. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

The site is in Kimberley; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Attend roadside breakdowns in the service truck
• Inspect tyres, fifth wheels and kingpins for wear and damage
• Overhaul brake systems, including air valves, chambers and slack adjusters
• Fault-find AdBlue and aftertreatment systems on newer engines
• Diagnose electronic engine faults with a heavy-duty diagnostic laptop
• Service trucks and trailers on the planned maintenance schedule

• Physically fit for work under trucks and on pits
• Willing to do standby and roadside call-outs
• Diesel mechanic trade test certificate
• Code 14 licence so you can move and test trucks
• Experience with electronic diagnostics on modern diesel engines

• Hydraulic systems training
• PrDP for road tests with loaded vehicles
• Brand-specific heavy vehicle courses

• Standby and call-out allowance

• List the truck and engine types you have worked on, including electronic systems. Fleet managers screen for those.
