Field Service Diesel Mechanic (Roadside Breakdowns) – Experienced

Keep trucks on the road and earning at the long-distance trucking fleet in Rustenburg. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

Location: Rustenburg, North West. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Inspect tyres, fifth wheels and kingpins for wear and damage
• Attend roadside breakdowns in the service truck
• Record parts used and hours worked on the fleet system
• Repair gearboxes, differentials and clutches on heavy vehicles
• Service trucks and trailers on the planned maintenance schedule
• Carry out pre-roadworthy checks before the vehicle goes for COF testing
• Overhaul brake systems, including air valves, chambers and slack adjusters

• Experience with electronic diagnostics on modern diesel engines
• Solid understanding of air brake systems
• At least 3 years on heavy commercial vehicles or plant
• Physically fit for work under trucks and on pits
• Willing to do standby and roadside call-outs

• Brand-specific heavy vehicle courses
• Hydraulic systems training
