Fitter and Turner (Engineering Workshop)

The cement plant in Pretoria West needs an artisan who can fix a breakdown fast and machine a part when needed. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

This post is Pretoria West-based, with most of your time spent at a cement plant.

• Build and repair press tools, jigs and moulds
• Align shafts with a laser alignment tool after every drive change
• Inspect and adjust conveyors, chains and sprockets
• Help with electrical fault-finding on motors and sensors as a millwright
• Maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems on production lines
• Replace bearings, seals and couplings on pumps, gearboxes and motors
• Record work and spares used on the job card or CMMS

• At least 2 years as a qualified artisan in a factory or workshop
• Willing to work shifts, standby and weekend shutdowns
• N2 or N3 engineering subjects
• Own basic hand tools, or willing to build up a set
• Basic understanding of the General Machinery Regulations
• Trade test as Fitter and Turner, Fitter, Millwright or Toolmaker

• CNC programming experience
• Food safety awareness for food and drink plants

• Paid overtime on shutdowns
• Tool allowance
• Shift and standby allowances
• Chance to study further toward a technician diploma

• Expect a practical test. Measure twice and work cleanly, because the assessor watches your habits as much as the result.
• If you can machine parts as well as fit them, say so clearly. Many factories want both skills in one person.
