Fitter and Turner (Engineering Workshop) – Fixed-Term

The cement plant in Umhlanga needs an artisan who can fix a breakdown fast and machine a part when needed. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

This post is in Umhlanga (KwaZulu-Natal). Please only apply if you can travel there daily.

• Program and run CNC machines from engineering drawings
• Replace bearings, seals and couplings on pumps, gearboxes and motors
• Align shafts with a laser alignment tool after every drive change
• Respond to breakdowns and get the line running again safely
• Record work and spares used on the job card or CMMS
• Follow the lockout procedure before any work on machinery

• At least 2 years as a qualified artisan in a factory or workshop
• N2 or N3 engineering subjects
• Willing to work shifts, standby and weekend shutdowns
• Basic understanding of the General Machinery Regulations
• Trade test as Fitter and Turner, Fitter, Millwright or Toolmaker

• Chance to study further toward a technician diploma
• Shift and standby allowances

• Paid overtime on shutdowns

• Expect a practical test. Measure twice and work cleanly, because the assessor watches your habits as much as the result.
• If you can machine parts as well as fit them, say so clearly. Many factories want both skills in one person.
