Mechanical Design Engineer (Materials Handling)

This paper and packaging mill in Ballito needs a mechanical engineer who is as comfortable on the plant floor as in the design office. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

Location: Ballito, KwaZulu-Natal. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Write scopes of work and compare contractor quotes
• Manage shutdowns: planning, spares, contractors and safe restart
• Prepare the maintenance budget and report monthly on spend
• Analyse breakdowns with root cause methods and fix the cause, not the symptom
• Mentor candidate engineers and artisans on technical problems

• Confident with 3D CAD software and engineering calculations
• Three or more years working as a qualified engineer, in industry or consulting
• BEng or BSc Eng in Mechanical Engineering, or a BTech or Advanced Diploma for technologist roles
• Able to manage contractors and budgets

• Finite element analysis skills
• Experience with SAP PM for maintenance

• Performance bonus tied to plant availability
• Medical aid and retirement fund contributions
• Study support for postgraduate courses

• Put your ECSA category and number under your name. For senior roles it is often the first filter.
• Keep the CV to three pages. Link to a short portfolio of designs rather than attaching large files.
