Fitter (Underground Engineering)

This platinum mine engineering department near Polokwane needs a trade-tested artisan who is safe, quick and thorough on breakdowns. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

Location: Polokwane, Limpopo. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Isolate and lock out machines under the site isolation procedure
• Repair and align conveyor belt drives, pulleys and idlers
• Maintain pumps, fans and compressors in shafts and on surface
• Carry out planned maintenance on loaders, drill rigs and utility vehicles
• Guide and teach an artisan assistant on the job
• Complete job cards and work orders in SAP after each task

• At least 2 years as a qualified artisan, preferably on a mine
• Willing to do standby and call-outs on a roster
• Understands MHSA duties for artisans, including lockout and permits
• N3 certificate or Grade 12 with maths and science

• Government Certificate of Competency studies in progress
• Experience with collision avoidance systems on TMM
• Flameproof equipment training for coal mines

• Artisan allowance on top of basic pay
• Tool allowance or company-issued toolbox
• Study assistance for engineering qualifications

• Your trade test certificate must show the trade and the date. Keep a certified copy ready because mines verify it.
• State your trade and the machines or equipment you know best, for example "fitter: conveyors, crushers and pumps".
