Forestry Team Supervisor (Silviculture)

Timber keeps rural towns working, and an eucalyptus plantation near George is hiring crews. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

You'll report in George. Relocation is not covered for this one. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

• Fight veld fires with beaters and water packs under a crew leader
• Clear and maintain firebreaks during the dry season
• Prune lower branches with pruning saws and ladders
• Apply herbicide around young trees as instructed
• Plant seedlings in prepared pits at the right spacing
• Wear chainsaw chaps, helmets and ear protection at all times
• Stack logs by length for loading onto trucks

• Able to work in a crew and follow the crew leader
• Passes the medical check for fire crews
• Physically strong and fit for steep slopes
• Available for early starts and fire-season standby
• Follows safety rules strictly around machines and fires

• Say you are fit and do not mind remote sites. Many applicants drop out after the first week, so recruiters test commitment.
• Mention fire fighting experience, even as a volunteer. Fire protection crews look for it before winter.
