Forestry Worker (Plantation Planting)

You'll plant, prune and fell trees for a forestry contractor in the hills near Coega. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

Home base is a forestry contractor on the Coega side of Eastern Cape. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Sharpen and service chainsaws daily
• Apply herbicide around young trees as instructed
• Stack logs by length for loading onto trucks
• Plant seedlings in prepared pits at the right spacing
• Wear chainsaw chaps, helmets and ear protection at all times

• Passes the medical check for fire crews
• Able to work in a crew and follow the crew leader
• Available for early starts and fire-season standby
• Valid ID
• Physically strong and fit for steep slopes

• Fire fighting training
• Chainsaw operator certificate

• Crew transport to plantations
• Full safety gear provided
• Fire-season standby allowance

• Mention fire fighting experience, even as a volunteer. Fire protection crews look for it before winter.
• Say you are fit and do not mind remote sites. Many applicants drop out after the first week, so recruiters test commitment.
