Forestry Worker (Plantation Planting)

You'll plant, prune and fell trees for a sawmill in the hills near Durban Central. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

Home base is a sawmill on the Durban Central side of KwaZulu-Natal. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

• Stack logs by length for loading onto trucks
• Prune lower branches with pruning saws and ladders
• Fight veld fires with beaters and water packs under a crew leader
• Feed logs into sawmill machines and stack planks
• Clear and maintain firebreaks during the dry season
• Plant seedlings in prepared pits at the right spacing

• Available for early starts and fire-season standby
• Valid ID
• Follows safety rules strictly around machines and fires
• Able to work in a crew and follow the crew leader
• Willing to work in remote areas
• Physically strong and fit for steep slopes

• Crew transport to plantations
• Chainsaw and fire training at no cost
• Fire-season standby allowance
• Full safety gear provided

• If you have a chainsaw ticket, put it at the top. Certified operators earn more and are hired first.
• Mention fire fighting experience, even as a volunteer. Fire protection crews look for it before winter.
