Frail Care Assistant (Retirement Village) – Immediate Start

A private medical ward in George needs someone kind and reliable to look after patients who can't manage alone. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

This post is George-based, with most of your time spent at a private medical ward. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

• Spot confusion, falls risk or changes in mood and tell the nurse in charge
• Help patients bath, dress, eat and use the toilet with dignity
• Follow infection control rules, including hand hygiene and safe sharps disposal
• Keep families updated on routine matters and pass clinical questions to the sister
• Take and chart temperature, pulse, blood pressure and blood glucose
• Turn bed-bound patients on schedule and check pressure areas for early sores

• Patient and gentle with elderly, frail or confused people
• Physically strong enough to lift and move patients safely
• At least 1 year of hands-on patient care
• Accredited home-based care or ancillary health care certificate for caregiver posts
• Matric or NQF Level 4 equivalent
• Able to work shifts, including nights and weekends

• Transport home after late shifts at some facilities
• Uniform supplied
• Paid training in dementia and end-of-life care
• Overtime paid at time and a half

• Name the type of patients you've cared for, such as stroke patients or dementia residents, in your first CV line.
• If you're a caregiver, attach the certificate from the training provider, not just a letter saying you attended.
