Front-End Loader Operator (Quarry & Stockpile)

Real machine hours on real projects, with the road construction contractor working in and around eMalahleni. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

Home base is a road construction contractor on the eMalahleni side of Mpumalanga. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Backfill and compact around pipes in layers
• Dig trenches for pipes and cables to the depth and grade set by the surveyor
• Compact layers with the roller until density tests pass
• Park the machine on level ground and lock it when you knock off
• Do the pre-start checklist on your machine before the first bucket
• Watch for underground services and follow the banksman's signals

• Good depth perception and no history of machine accidents
• Can read grade pegs and understand cut and fill
• Valid Code 10 licence for moving machines on public roads
• Operator certificate for the machine class, from an accredited training provider
• Medical certificate of fitness for operating mobile plant

• Camp accommodation or a living-out allowance on remote sites
• Travel home paid at the end of each site shift cycle
• Refresher training on new machines
• Overtime paid on all hours past 45 a week

• Put your operator certificate numbers on the CV. Site safety files need them before you start.
• List each machine with its size, for example "20-ton excavator, 4 years". Plant managers match you to the machine they need.
