Front-End Loader Operator (Quarry & Stockpile)

The plant hire company in Stellenbosch needs an operator who looks after the machine as well as the job. This role rewards consistency more than flash.

This post is Stellenbosch-based, with most of your time spent at a plant hire company. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Compact layers with the roller until density tests pass
• Cut and trim road layers to level with the grader
• Grease the machine daily and report leaks or damage straight away
• Watch for underground services and follow the banksman's signals
• Park the machine on level ground and lock it when you knock off
• Do the pre-start checklist on your machine before the first bucket

• Good depth perception and no history of machine accidents
• Medical certificate of fitness for operating mobile plant
• Operator certificate for the machine class, from an accredited training provider
• Valid Code 10 licence for moving machines on public roads
• At least 2 years operating the machine on construction sites
• Can read grade pegs and understand cut and fill

• Overtime paid on all hours past 45 a week
• Camp accommodation or a living-out allowance on remote sites
• Travel home paid at the end of each site shift cycle

• List each machine with its size, for example "20-ton excavator, 4 years". Plant managers match you to the machine they need.
• You will likely do a practical test on the machine. Do the walk-around check out loud. It shows you work safely.
