Job Description

Here your code runs in production, not in a drawer: an insurance company software team in Pietermaritzburg. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

You'll be based at an insurance company software team in Pietermaritzburg. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

What your day looks like

Write, test and refactor code in your team's main language
Investigate production bugs using logs and monitoring dashboards
Write unit and integration tests before you merge
Review teammates' pull requests with useful comments
Deploy through a CI/CD pipeline on Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions or GitLab
Pair with junior developers to unblock them
Document how your features work for support and new developers

You'll need

Good SQL and understanding of relational databases
Stable internet and a quiet workspace for remote days
Experience writing automated tests
You can explain technical choices to non-technical people
A computer science or IT qualification, or a portfolio that proves you can build

Helpful, not essential

Cloud certification on AWS, Azure or Google Cloud
Knowledge of secure coding and the OWASP Top 10
Docker and Kubernetes experience
