Job Description

This structural design practice in Richards Bay needs someone who can check a design and then go and check it was built right. This is a good step for someone who wants proper routine and a manager who notices good work.

This post is Richards Bay-based, with most of your time spent at a structural design practice.

What your day looks like

Write design reports and handover documents
Apply for municipal wayleaves and building plan approvals
Chair site meetings and handle contractor queries
Act as resident engineer: inspect works, measure quantities and certify payments
Design reinforced concrete and steel structures to SANS 10100 and SANS 10162
Work out loads to SANS 10160 for buildings and structures
Review geotechnical reports and choose suitable foundations

Must-haves

BEng, BSc Eng or BTech in Civil Engineering
Code 08 licence and willingness to spend time on site
Experience with structural or hydraulic design software
Able to explain technical issues to clients and contractors
Registered with ECSA as a professional or candidate
At least 3 years in design or construction supervision

Nice if you have

Master's degree in structural or water engineering
Experience on public sector infrastructure projects
