Grader Operator (Road Construction)

Real machine hours on real projects, with the bulk earthworks contractor working in and around Bloemfontein. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

The work is in Bloemfontein, Free State, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day.

• Park the machine on level ground and lock it when you knock off
• Do the pre-start checklist on your machine before the first bucket
• Record machine hours and fuel on the daily plant sheet
• Compact layers with the roller until density tests pass
• Backfill and compact around pipes in layers
• Cut and trim road layers to level with the grader

• Medical certificate of fitness for operating mobile plant
• Can read grade pegs and understand cut and fill
• Good depth perception and no history of machine accidents
• Willing to work on projects outside your home town

• GPS machine control experience on excavators or graders
• PrDP for tipper or lowbed work

• Refresher training on new machines
• Overtime paid on all hours past 45 a week
• Camp accommodation or a living-out allowance on remote sites

• List each machine with its size, for example "20-ton excavator, 4 years". Plant managers match you to the machine they need.
• You will likely do a practical test on the machine. Do the walk-around check out loud. It shows you work safely.
