Grader Operator (Road Construction)

You'll move earth, dig trenches and shape roads for the road construction contractor in Brackenfell. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

Home base is a road construction contractor on the Brackenfell side of Western Cape. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Do the pre-start checklist on your machine before the first bucket
• Record machine hours and fuel on the daily plant sheet
• Load tipper trucks without spillage or overloading
• Watch for underground services and follow the banksman's signals
• Park the machine on level ground and lock it when you knock off

• Willing to work on projects outside your home town
• Valid Code 10 licence for moving machines on public roads
• Good depth perception and no history of machine accidents
• Operator certificate for the machine class, from an accredited training provider
• Can read grade pegs and understand cut and fill

• GPS machine control experience on excavators or graders
• PrDP for tipper or lowbed work

• Camp accommodation or a living-out allowance on remote sites
• Travel home paid at the end of each site shift cycle
• Overtime paid on all hours past 45 a week

• Put your operator certificate numbers on the CV. Site safety files need them before you start.
• List each machine with its size, for example "20-ton excavator, 4 years". Plant managers match you to the machine they need.
