Grader Operator (Road Construction)

The pipeline and trenching company in East London needs an operator who looks after the machine as well as the job. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

Home base is a pipeline and trenching company on the East London side of Eastern Cape. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Park the machine on level ground and lock it when you knock off
• Do the pre-start checklist on your machine before the first bucket
• Watch for underground services and follow the banksman's signals
• Grease the machine daily and report leaks or damage straight away
• Compact layers with the roller until density tests pass
• Cut and trim road layers to level with the grader

• Operator certificate for the machine class, from an accredited training provider
• At least 2 years operating the machine on construction sites
• Willing to work on projects outside your home town
• Valid Code 10 licence for moving machines on public roads

• Certificates on more than one machine type
• GPS machine control experience on excavators or graders
• PrDP for tipper or lowbed work

• Camp accommodation or a living-out allowance on remote sites
• Travel home paid at the end of each site shift cycle
• Refresher training on new machines
• Overtime paid on all hours past 45 a week

• List each machine with its size, for example "20-ton excavator, 4 years". Plant managers match you to the machine they need.
• Put your operator certificate numbers on the CV. Site safety files need them before you start.
