Grader Operator (Road Construction)

You'll move earth, dig trenches and shape roads for the quarry and aggregate supplier in Kimberley. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

This post is Kimberley-based, with most of your time spent at a quarry and aggregate supplier. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Park the machine on level ground and lock it when you knock off
• Dig trenches for pipes and cables to the depth and grade set by the surveyor
• Do the pre-start checklist on your machine before the first bucket
• Cut and trim road layers to level with the grader
• Grease the machine daily and report leaks or damage straight away
• Record machine hours and fuel on the daily plant sheet
• Backfill and compact around pipes in layers

• Good depth perception and no history of machine accidents
• Operator certificate for the machine class, from an accredited training provider
• Can read grade pegs and understand cut and fill
• Willing to work on projects outside your home town
• Medical certificate of fitness for operating mobile plant

• PrDP for tipper or lowbed work
• GPS machine control experience on excavators or graders

• Refresher training on new machines
• Camp accommodation or a living-out allowance on remote sites
• Travel home paid at the end of each site shift cycle

• Put your operator certificate numbers on the CV. Site safety files need them before you start.
• You will likely do a practical test on the machine. Do the walk-around check out loud. It shows you work safely.
