Grader Operator (Road Construction) – Permanent

You'll move earth, dig trenches and shape roads for the quarry and aggregate supplier in Potchefstroom. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

This post is Potchefstroom-based, with most of your time spent at a quarry and aggregate supplier. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Park the machine on level ground and lock it when you knock off
• Watch for underground services and follow the banksman's signals
• Load tipper trucks without spillage or overloading
• Do the pre-start checklist on your machine before the first bucket
• Backfill and compact around pipes in layers

• Willing to work on projects outside your home town
• Valid Code 10 licence for moving machines on public roads
• Can read grade pegs and understand cut and fill
• At least 2 years operating the machine on construction sites
• Good depth perception and no history of machine accidents
• Medical certificate of fitness for operating mobile plant

• GPS machine control experience on excavators or graders
• Basic plant maintenance or mechanical knowledge

• Camp accommodation or a living-out allowance on remote sites
• Travel home paid at the end of each site shift cycle
• Refresher training on new machines
• Overtime paid on all hours past 45 a week

• List each machine with its size, for example "20-ton excavator, 4 years". Plant managers match you to the machine they need.
• Put your operator certificate numbers on the CV. Site safety files need them before you start.
