Guest Room Attendant (Lodge)

Housekeeping at a boutique guesthouse in Ballito is steady work with room to grow into supervising. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

Location: Ballito, KwaZulu-Natal. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Work through a room list, marking rooms clean on the housekeeping board
• Keep your trolley stocked and neat before each shift
• Clean bathrooms, replace towels and restock guest toiletries
• Vacuum, dust and check the minibar in each room
• Do evening turndowns, closing curtains and setting out slippers
• Load, wash, dry and press linen in the hotel laundry

• Quick and thorough, with a target of about 14 to 16 rooms a shift
• Well groomed
• Physically able to push trolleys and turn mattresses
• Friendly and polite if you meet guests in the corridor
• Honest, since you work in guests' rooms alone

• Experience with industrial laundry machines
• Speaking a foreign language for tourist guests

• Share of the service charge or guest tips
• Uniform supplied and laundered
• Staff accommodation at remote lodges

• Write how many rooms you usually cleaned per shift. Head housekeepers care about pace as much as quality.
• If you worked in a star-graded hotel, say which grading. It tells them the standard you already know.
