Guesthouse Housekeeper

You'll turn rooms around at a city business hotel in Roodepoort so every guest walks into a room that feels new. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

This post is Roodepoort-based, with most of your time spent at a city business hotel. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Clean bathrooms, replace towels and restock guest toiletries
• Report maintenance faults like dripping taps or broken lights
• Load, wash, dry and press linen in the hotel laundry
• Log lost property with the guest's room number and date
• Strip and make beds to the hotel's standard, hospital corners included
• Keep your trolley stocked and neat before each shift

• Honest, since you work in guests' rooms alone
• Available on weekends, holidays and in peak season
• Physically able to push trolleys and turn mattresses
• Quick and thorough, with a target of about 14 to 16 rooms a shift
• Friendly and polite if you meet guests in the corridor

• Speaking a foreign language for tourist guests
• Previous hotel or guesthouse housekeeping experience
• Experience with industrial laundry machines

• Share of the service charge or guest tips
• Meals on duty from the staff kitchen
• Staff accommodation at remote lodges

• Mention seasonal availability for December and Easter. Coastal and lodge properties hire heavily before those peaks.
• Write how many rooms you usually cleaned per shift. Head housekeepers care about pace as much as quality.
