Hardware Store Yard Assistant

Start in retail here: a wholesale cash-and-carry in Fourways trains packers who show up and work neat. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

This post is in Fourways (Gauteng). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Unpack deliveries in the receiving area and sort by aisle
• Weigh, bag and price fruit and vegetables
• Pack shelves from the back, rotating older stock to the front (first in, first out)
• Collect trolleys from the parking lot
• Visit several stores on a merchandising route and send photos of shelves
• Clean spills fast and put up wet-floor signs
• Face products so labels point forward and gaps are filled

• Basic reading and maths for price checks
• Honest, since stock losses are checked closely
• Able to stand and lift cases all shift
• Available for weekends, month-end and public holidays
• Neat appearance and punctual
• Grade 10 or matric

• Some till or cash-handling experience
• Being 18 or older for liquor store roles
• Previous shelf packing or merchandising work

• Paid training in store procedures
• Chance to move into till or department roles
• Travel allowance on merchandising routes
• Staff discount on groceries

• If you have ever sold anything, even at a school tuck shop or a family stall, list it. It shows you are comfortable with customers.
• Stores fill weekend and night-fill slots first, so write "available weekends and nights" in your CV summary line.
