Head Waiter (Family Restaurant) – Immediate Start

You'll look after tables at a hotel restaurant in Pietermaritzburg, from the first greeting to the final bill. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

You'll be based at a hotel restaurant in Pietermaritzburg. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Split bills, process card payments and handle tip-outs at the end of shift.
• Pull espresso shots and steam milk for flat whites and cappuccinos.
• Greet guests, seat them and hand over menus within a minute of arrival.
• Set tables, polish cutlery and glasses, and check condiments before doors open.
• Mix cocktails, pour draught and serve shooters to spec at the bar.
• Refuse service to anyone under 18 or visibly drunk, as the Liquor Act requires.

• Quick with basic maths and card machines
• Grade 10 or higher; matric is a plus
• Own transport or a safe way home after late shifts
• You can stand and walk for a full 8-hour shift
• At least 6 months of waitering, bar or coffee shop experience
• Neat grooming and a friendly manner under pressure

• Wine knowledge from a WSET Level 1 or wine farm stint
• A second language such as isiZulu, isiXhosa or Afrikaans
• A barista course certificate or latte-art skills

• Uniform supplied and laundered
• You keep your own tips, paid out daily or weekly
• Staff meal on every shift

• Walk in with your CV between 2pm and 4pm when managers have time, not during lunch or dinner service.
