Home-Based Caregiver (Live-In)

A hospice in-patient unit in Mossel Bay needs someone kind and reliable to look after patients who can't manage alone. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

Home base is a hospice in-patient unit on the Mossel Bay side of Western Cape.

• Make beds, change linen and keep the rooms clean and uncluttered
• Help patients bath, dress, eat and use the toilet with dignity
• Hand out oral medication under the supervision of a registered nurse
• Turn bed-bound patients on schedule and check pressure areas for early sores
• Keep the fluid and food intake charts accurate for every patient
• Keep families updated on routine matters and pass clinical questions to the sister
• Follow infection control rules, including hand hygiene and safe sharps disposal

• First aid Level 1 or BLS certificate
• Matric or NQF Level 4 equivalent
• Able to work shifts, including nights and weekends
• SANC enrolment as an Enrolled Nurse or Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary for nursing posts
• At least 1 year of hands-on patient care

• Code B or Code 8 driver's licence for home visits
• Experience in a frail care or hospice setting
• Dementia care or palliative care short course

• Meals provided on shift at many frail care centres
• Overtime paid at time and a half
• Uniform supplied

• Name the type of patients you've cared for, such as stroke patients or dementia residents, in your first CV line.
• If you're a caregiver, attach the certificate from the training provider, not just a letter saying you attended.
