Housekeeper and Cook (Family Home) – Entry Level

Cleaning, laundry and a hand with the kids: that is the week in a retired couple's cottage in Johannesburg CBD. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

You'll report in Johannesburg CBD. Relocation is not covered for this one. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Help an elderly person with meals, medication reminders and light walking
• Dust furniture, ornaments and skirting boards
• Change bed linen and make beds
• Clean bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and living areas on a weekly rotation
• Prepare simple meals or school lunches when asked

• Neat, organised and able to work without being supervised
• Willing to follow the family's house rules and routines
• Able to speak and understand basic English
• Trustworthy, with references from previous employers you can share

• Cooking experience with family meals
• Non-smoker

• Own room with bathroom for live-in posts
• Paid annual leave and public holidays as the law requires
• Written contract with fixed hours and duties
• Transport money for live-out staff

• Say plainly what you can and cannot do: cooking, ironing, childcare, driving. It avoids arguments later and families like honesty.
• Families hire on trust, so make references your strongest part. Write the employer's name, suburb, years worked and phone number for each one.
