You'll turn rooms around at a conference hotel in Pietermaritzburg so every guest walks into a room that feels new. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

Home base is a conference hotel on the Pietermaritzburg side of KwaZulu-Natal.

• Work through a room list, marking rooms clean on the housekeeping board
• Vacuum, dust and check the minibar in each room
• Do evening turndowns, closing curtains and setting out slippers
• Report maintenance faults like dripping taps or broken lights
• Strip and make beds to the hotel's standard, hospital corners included
• Clean lobby, lifts and public toilets through the day

• Quick and thorough, with a target of about 14 to 16 rooms a shift
• Well groomed
• Friendly and polite if you meet guests in the corridor
• Honest, since you work in guests' rooms alone

• A hospitality short course or NQF Level 2 accommodation services certificate
• Speaking a foreign language for tourist guests

• Share of the service charge or guest tips
• Meals on duty from the staff kitchen
• Staff accommodation at remote lodges
