HR Officer (Private Hospital)

You'll handle the full HR cycle for a manufacturing plant in Hammarsdale, from hiring to hearings. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

This post is in Hammarsdale (KwaZulu-Natal). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Track leave, absenteeism and sick notes and act on patterns.
• Chair or initiate disciplinary hearings and write up the outcome.
• Run onboarding, contracts and probation reviews for new staff.
• Update HR policies when labour law changes.
• Consult with shop stewards and attend union meetings.
• Handle grievances with notes, dates and a clear written outcome.
• Run exit interviews and report turnover each quarter.

• Solid working knowledge of the LRA, BCEA and EEA
• A degree or diploma in HR management, labour relations or industrial psychology
• At least 3 years as an HR officer or generalist
• CCMA experience, at least at conciliation

• Experience on a unionised site or in a bargaining council sector
• SABPP registration

• CPD and SABPP fees paid
• Annual performance bonus
• Medical aid and provident fund contributions

• Prepare for a case-study question on dismissing an employee fairly, and walk through procedure and substance.
• Name the bargaining councils or unions you have dealt with, as sector knowledge often decides the shortlist.
